My Nursing Philosphy
The nursing profession is so vastly important; however, nurses go unnoticed every single day. Nurses are professionals who do many of the “behind the scenes” duties such as comforting patients, documentation, cleaning, and referring patients to obtain the resources they need. Nurses implement the doctor’s orders, but also have the responsibility to hold the providers accountable for the orders. Nurses have the obligation to make sure dosages are safe, and the right medications are prescribed. They are with patients twenty-four hours of the day and night and are the first responders to any immediate requests. Nurses are required to be on their feet every hour of the day despite sickness and soreness. They come in before the shift starts and leave after the shift is over to make sure their patients have everything they need. They hold the hands of patients in pain, celebrate with patients with good news, and cry with patients and families over bad news. Nurses choose this profession despite the strenuous work, extreme highs, and deep lows because they are called to be compassionate caregivers to all patients.
My philosophy of nursing is that I believe nursing is a rewarding, fulfilling, and true calling profession. It requires hard work, dedication, sacrifice, integrity, and compassion. It allows for so many different opportunities and ways to grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually through daily challenges.
